Atrocitus, whose original name was Atros, is a prominent figure in DC Comics as the leader and founder of the Red Lantern Corps. He hails from the planet Ryut, located in Space Sector 666.
Before becoming a Red Lantern, Atros was one of five beings who survived the Massacre of Sector 666, an event orchestrated by the Manhunters. Consumed by rage and fueled by the emotional trauma, Atros became a vessel for pure, untamed rage.
He was initially a member of the Five Inversions, a terrorist group dedicated to eradicating all life. Later he was imprisoned by the Guardians of the Universe on the planet Ysmault.
Harnessing the red light of rage, Atrocitus forged his own Power Battery and Power Ring. The Red Lantern Corps are powered by the rage of their members, which replaces their hearts and blood with a corrosive, napalm-like substance.
Atrocitus is a powerful and ruthless figure, driven by vengeance against those he perceives as responsible for the destruction of his home and family. He often clashes with the Green Lantern Corps, but has also found himself in temporary alliances when facing greater threats.
